NOAA is forecasting up to 57″ of new snow at Mt. Baker Ski Resort by Monday evening.  That’s a lot of snow in a short time.

This is exactly what Mt. Baker ski area needs to get open.  Depending on how difficult it is to manage all that snow, we’d expect Mt. Baker ski area to open before Thanksgiving.

NOAA has issued a Winter Weather Watch for the Mt. Baker area:

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM PST
SATURDAY FOR ELEVATIONS ABOVE 3500 FEET...

* HAZARD TYPE...SNOW AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS WITH LOCAL FREEZING
  RAIN IN THE PASSES.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...A FOOT OF SNOW OR MORE IS LIKELY AT THE
  HIGHEST ELEVATIONS AND HIGHEST PASSES. MAINLY RAIN WITH A LITTLE
  FREEZING RAIN WILL FALL IN THE MAIN CASCADE PASSES...STEVENS AND
  SNOQUALMIE PASSES TODAY...BUT THE SNOW LEVEL WILL FALL TONIGHT.

* SOME AFFECTED LOCATIONS...THE NORTH CASCADES HIGHWAY...CAYUSE
  AND CHIN0OK PASSES.

* TIMING...THE HEAVIEST SNOW IS EXPECTED TO OCCUR THIS AFTERNOON
  THROUGH THIS EVENING. RAIN AND LOCAL FREEZING RAIN AT STEVENS
  PASS MAY CHANGE BACK OVER TO SNOW THIS AFTERNOON. RAIN OR
  FREEZING RAIN AT SNOQUALMIE PASS WILL TURN TO WET SNOW SHOWERS
  THIS EVENING.

* IMPACT...WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS CAN BE EXPECTED IN THE HIGHER
  CASCADE PASSES.
