This storm was so big that Mt. Hutt, NZ closed early 2 days ago and stayed completely closed yesterday as this huge storm dropped 40 inches of snow in 20 hours.  In fact, every resort spoken of in this article is closed today as well due to insane amounts of snow and wind.  This is a big storm and a great way to start off the 2013 snow season in New Zealand.

SNOW TOTALS IN NEW ZEALAND PAST 24 HOURS:

Treble Cone = 60 inches

– Mt. Hutt = 40 inches

Cardrona = 24 inches

The Remarkables = 12 inches

It’s game on in New Zealand right now.  More reports soon.  Australia is struggling to catch up.  Oz does have the most extensive snow making systems on Earth, though, so skiing and riding will happen regardless of Mother Nature.
