Better late than never. With only 5 days till closing we received our biggest single storm of the season! With weird springtime dynamics, lake effect, and a shallow storm, total snowfall amounts ranged from 20″ – 39″ with most places inbounds at Alta on the high end! The storm came in hot with a good ol’ fashioned dust storm and a 25 degree temperature drop in the matter of a couple hours.

Then the guns turned on. All systems go. We had lake effect, orographic enhancement, a touch of daytime heating enhancement and a good dose of Alta magic. What was forecasted to be 6-12″ with maybe a bit more in the upper cottonwoods ended up being the storm of the year! And to top it all off the storm was perfectly right-side up and ended with some classic blower pow.

Cold, snowy, and calm conditions made the skiing supreme until last chair on Wednesday. And with the storm being an over-performer and many peoples thoughts moved on to gardening and biking, the lifts were barely full.

Thursday promised to be fantastic, at least until the sun would come out. However spring had different plans. Totally unforecasted East winds picked up and jacked much of the snow by midday. However the morning was still fantastic and deep. But due to winds and sun, terrain, like ballroom, and backside had to be left closed.

I am guessing that tomorrow (Friday) will be a great day to get out early and hit some openings and then call it early when the sun gets hot, and the snow gets wet.

And make sure for Sunday you don’t miss out on closing day activities. [53rd Annual FRANK ::: Hi-Noon 4/19 ::: Punk Rock]. Be there or be don’t be.

SNOW REPORT:

24 hour snowfall: 5”
7 day snowfall: 34″
base: 95″
season snowfall: 309″

WEATHER:

Not too much in terms of weather. maybe some lingering clouds and flurries on Friday, but becoming mostly sunny. Then a weak disturbance will pass through over the weekend. But we are all hoping it stays away and we can have a warm and sunny spring day to end out the season.
