Avalanche Death Near Revelstoke, B.C. Saturday

A fatal avalanche occurred on Boulder Mountain near Revelstoke, British Columbia at 11:30am on Saturday.  A second man was also caught in the avalanche and received non life threatening injuries.  Both snowmobilers were carrying avalanche equipment.  The avalanche danger on Saturday was rated at “High.”

Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman Constable Lesley Smith reported that Boulder Mountain was “extremely busy with numerous snowmobilers” on Saturday.  A group of 4 snowmobilers from Alberta were reportedly near the Boulder Mountain snowmobile cabin when the avalanche occurred.

“We’ve had a number of avalanches over this winter season and so we are cautioning outdoor enthusiasts to please make sure that they know the environment they’re going into and do their research.” – Constable Lesley Smith

This was the 2nd avalanche fatality in British Columbia this winter.  A snowmobiler died in an avalanche south of Valemount, B.C. last month.

It was a terrible avalanche week in North America last week with 2 avalanche deaths in Oregon, 2 avalanche deaths in Utah, and 4 avalanche deaths in Colorado.

15 people have died in avalanches in the USA this winter.
