This is horrible, horrible news.
A French avalanche has killed one child, 5 more are missing, and 4 were seriously injured after an avalanche hit a school group of 10 children and their teacher. This school group is from Lyon, France.
It’s sadly very likely that the 5 missing children are deceased and some of the children in the hospital are struggling for their lives.
“At least two of the survivors are in a state of cardiac arrest and one more is in a serious condition, officials said.” – BBC
The deceased child was 14-years-old. A Ukranian skier was also killed in the avalanche.
This avalanche occurred at Les Deux Alpes in Isére, France at 3:45pm today.
It is being reported that this group of children triggered the avalanche.
The mayor of Venosc, Pierre Balme, reported that the avalanche occured on a black ski run that was closed at the time.
Avalanche danger is currently 4 out of 5 (“High”) much of the Alps after large snowfalls swept through the Alps this week.
A large rescue operation was launched just as night was falling today. 3 helicopters, police, search and rescue teams, and search dogs.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their family and friends.
Before this accident occurred, 4 people had already died in the French Alps in the past 2 weeks.
