Backcountry skiing is the fastest growing faction in winter sports. Along with the influx of bc enthusiasts the sport is also seeing a dramatic increase in search and rescue missions. Organizations like Sierra Avalanche are dedicated to bringing avalanche awareness and preparedness to all those entering into the beautiful but potentially hazardous backcountry.

Don Triplat, the interim executive director of SAC will talk about avalanche awareness and discuss backpack essentials for bc readiness should you be caught in a life threatening situation. Don will also demonstrate the use of Sierra Avalanche Center’s avalanche forecasting tool on their website.

The evening will start with a social hour including beer and brauts, while BCA, ABS, and Black Diamond demonstrate hands on avalanche airbag deployment techniques.

Granite Chief’s avalanche preparedness and awareness evening is also a fund raiser to support the continued work of Sierra Avalanche Center, a non-profit organization. We will sell raffle tickets for an Avalanche Airbag, snow shovels, snow probes, custom Amfit Orthotics, Granite Chief Ski Service Cards, and more.

The event pledges the evening to be full of valuable information, a sled load of prizes and giveaways, and a lively kickoff to a fat snow season for Tahoe backcountry skiers.

Granite Chief is proud to be a partner of and advocate for Sierra Avalanche Center.
