It’s Monday, hence it’s time for Music Mondays where we try and bring you an artist that we think belongs on your skiing, biking, whatever playlist. This weeks featured artist has been in the industry for a while now, however she has not seen the mainstream play that she deserves, we are talking about Lana Del Rey. Del Rey’s music brings a different sound to the industry, one that hasn’t been heard for years as her music is often described as “orchestral”, and “retro-60’s” sounding. Rolling Stone Magazine commented on how Del Rey likes to play the role of lounge singer, and she has been described as a “self-styled gangsta Nancy Sinatra” in reference to her 50’s and 60’s spin on modern popular music. With an incredibly beautiful voice, and soulful often provocative songs, Lana Del Rey is making a name for herself in the music industry.

Born in New York City, Lizzy Grant started writing songs at the age of 18, and signed her first record deal at the age of 22 with 5 Points Records. Her debut single “Video Games” off of her album Born To Die was released in June 2011 and became a viral sensation with the music video reaching over 20 million views. “Born To Die” was released in January 2012 and became the fifth best-selling album of 2012 selling over 3.6 million copies. Following “Born To Die”, Del Rey released “Paradise” in November of 2012, and contributed to the new movie “The Great Gatsby” with the song “‘Young and Beautiful”. Lana Del Rey makes beautiful music, creative and soulful, there is no doubt that she takes pride in every song she puts out. Go ahead and give her a listen, before you know it you will have her whole catalogue on your iTunes.
