Ski Big Tupper in New York will not be opening this winter due to a lack of snow.  They weren’t able to operate a single day this year.

Ski Big Tupper was also closed in 2012/13 due to financial reasons.

This one hits us hard out here in Squaw Valley as this is where the legendary Scott (senior editor of MSP) and Robb Gaffney, M.D grew up skiing.

Fingers crossed for an epic winter back east next year.

“We are sorry to announce that the Adirondack Residents Intent on Saving their Economy (ARISE) Board has made the difficult decision to not open Big Tupper this season.  While the weather has worked against our efforts this year, let’s keep our eye to a brighter future.  Please know that this decision did not come easily and that your efforts are greatly appreciated.   There are a lot of discussions taking place about the future operation – all very positive.  We will make every effort to keep you updated as things unfold.” – Big Tupper on February 3rd, 2016

  1. It is sad that Big Tupper will not open this year. It has produced a large number of excellent skiers over the years. There is a lot more to the story about not opening, starting with the fact that the developers who own the area sold off all the perfectly good snowmaking system several years ago instead of maintaining it while they were waiting to get permits for the overall development scheme. The developers try to spin it by saying the equipment was old and outdated, not usable or that the previous owner sold off the system, that is BS. Robb Gaffney can verify that if anyone is interested.
