NOAA: Winter Storm Warning for Hawaii Today | Snow Has Forced Road Closure

Yep, snow is forecast on the Big Island of Hawaii today and tonight and enough snow has already fallen in Hawaii to close the road to the summit of 13,803′ Mauna Kea at the Visitor Information Center at 9,200′, according to rangers.

NOAA has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Mauna Kea on Hawaii that ends today at 6:30pm PST and initially called for 4-8″ of snowfall.  A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Mauna Kea until 6am PST tomorrow morning.

Heavy snow occurring. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches
are expected, although rain may also mix with the snow at times.

at times and difficult travel conditions to the summits.

Instructions:

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions are

occurring. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
