Newry, Maine: Ho, ho, ho! Yesterday the slopes of Sunday River were decorated with 180 jolly Santa’s skiing and riding down the slopes. The spirit of the holiday season known as Santa Sunday is a charity fundraiser held every December at the resort. There were 180 Santa ‘s on hand to help support the 18th annual event which went on to raise close to $3,000 for a local charity.

“This is the right way to start the holiday season. It’s so much fun. This whole activity, it moves you back to your childhood”

Yelana Walsh, former professional skier from Russia who participated in the event.

Registration for this annual event fills up almost immediately, with all Jolly Old St. Nick’s donating $15 toward the event in exchange for a day to ski free and help out a great cause.

About Sunday River Resort:

Located in western Maine’s Mahoosuc Mountains, Sunday River offers eight interconnected peaks and is one of the largest ski resorts in the state. The summit elevation is 3,140 feet with a total of 15 lifts providing access to 870 acres of skiable terrain. Almost 300 acres are devoted to developed tree skiing.
