Skier Dies in Tree Well @ Crystal Mountain, WA Yesterday

A 35-year-old Seattle skier was found dead in a tree well in bounds at Crystal Mountain ski resort in Washington state yesterday.  He had apparently landed up-side-down in the tree well and suffocated in the deep snow.  Crystal Mountain has received 112″ of snow in the past 11 days.

The man was reported missing by his ski partner at 2:25pm on Wednesday.  He was last seen at 1pm on “Dick’s Face.”

A ski patroller found the missing man in a tree well at 2:30pm.  He dug the man out and immediately began CPR.  The victim did not recover.

 “It appears the victim died from snow immersion suffocation.” – Crystal Mountain

“This serves as an unfortunate and sad reminder of how important it is to ski and ride with a partner, and keep them in sight, especially where there’s a lot of new and unsettled snow.” said Paul Baugher, Ski Patrol director.
