Sam Luebke and Ralph Backstrom took first and second place yesterday at the Freeride World Tour event in Kapl, Austria.  Ralphy won it all last year and Sammy is definitely in position to win it all this year.  The Squaw boys are representing us well on Snowboards in the Freeride World Tour.

“I am feeling really good.  I was skeptical on line choice as the face was a bit shorter. I thought about changing my original choice but stuck with my plan, and that worked out. The conditions were variable but I found some nice pockets of good snow.” – Sammy Luebke

The original venue was slated for Fieberbrunn, Austria but had to be scratched after a large avalanche devastated the venue.  Austria has had many areas experiencing “Extreme” avalanche danger this week and last.  Some regions of the southern alps got up to 10 feet of snow in 4 days last week.  Many regions broke records for 48 hour snowfall amounts.  Meteorologists are calling last week’s storm a 100 year event.
