Olympic gold medalist Julia Mancuso will miss the 2015/16 FIS World Cup season due to a hip injury.  Julia will undergo surgery today at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, CO.

Julia has stated that she’s been trying to rehab her injured hip to no avail.  Her goal right now is to ski in the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.

“If I were to try to push through, get more treatments and try to ski this season, I would just be setting myself back toward the real goal, which is Pyeong Chang 2018.  My goal is to be strong enough to freeski at the end of March, but conservatively, it depends on the outcome of the surgery.” – Julia Mancuso

Kyle Wilkens, U.S. Ski Team medical director, said this about Mancuso’s decision:

“We used this year’s prep season to exhaust all conservative treatment.  Unfortunately, those efforts were not successful and she has elected to go forth with surgery.” – Kyle Wilkens

Julia is a highly decorated World Cup ski racer who has captured more major championship medals than any other American woman (4 Olympic medals and 5 Wold Champions medals) She has been competing on the World Cup since she was 16 and skied in the Olympics at 17.
