Did your favorite ski resort make the list?

Just last month, Facebook made huge amounts of its data public including who is interested in what called ‘Audience Optimization‘.   Intended as a new tool for managers to identify their target market, Facebook’s new Audience Optimization feature has also opened up a quantifiable worldwide popularity contest that we call social media.

Interestingly, nearly 158 million people have expressed interest in skiing and 145 million people have expressed interest in snowboarding through the popular social media site. This list is very unique, it didn’t correlate with the skiable acres list nor the annual skier visits list. This list isn’t based off of the number of likes that a Facebook page has, its based off the number of people that have showed interest in that ski resort on Facebook.
