Throwback Thursday: 1999 X-Games Big Air Contest with Jonny Moseley, Candide Thovex, JF Cusson

It’s hard to believe things have changed this much in 20 years.

JF Cusson wins the X-Games Big Air with the ugliest switch 7.  Jonny Moseley doesn’t even have goggles on and has both of his poles in one hand.  He does get the Japan grab, though.

Just look how small the jump is.

It’s very cool to look back and see how far things have progressed in skiing.  Now you have to throw a double or triple cork trick with stylie grabs and steez off an enormous jump just to get into the X-Games Big Air event.

But, in 1999, you could win it with a flat spin.  We know you hear it all the time, but with this video’s perspective, it’s interesting to think where skiing will be in another 20 years.  The tricks are going to be bizarre and huge.

We definitely feel like we are getting closer to the edge with how big we can go and how many times we can spin and flip, but it’s an illusion.  Human nature won’t allow the progression to stop.  In 20 years from now, it truly is going to be nuts.
