“Just in case you were wondering what it looks like up here when we’ve got 150km/h winds in the base area….” – Mt. Hutt, NZ

150kph (93mph) winds closed many ski resorts in southern New Zealand today, June 29th, 2015.  Mt. Hutt had 93mph winds at it’s base area.  Must have been absolutely wild up top.

Mt. Hutt and Coronet Peak were closed today June 29th, 2015.  Treble Cone is open today with limited terrain due to strong winds.  Cardrona was open with moderate winds.

“Really sorry everyone, this wind is just too strong to operate safely today so Coronet Peak is closed. We’ve had up to 5cm of fresh snow on the upper mountain and around 3cm at base so tomorrow should be a cracker.” – Coronet Peak

It looks like winds will be light enough for the south isle ski resorts to open up tomorrow.
