VIDEO: Vermont Backcountry Skiing Has Been Unreal Past Month…

I am Adam Wheeler, a self employed carpenter living in Waterbury Center, VT. We have had a great stretch of snow and mainly consistent cold in the NEast (mountains) from the end of January until the warm up we had this past Saturday. This POV footage was from Friday.

My buddy, Dan and I, knew we had warm weather coming and had to take advantage of the ~3′ that had fallen last week. I had not skied This local (secret) stash near Mount Mansfield since two years ago.

Last year we did not have enough snow to even get into the BC…While this year Mount Mansfield and Jay Peak have seen record snows, other resorts are still just getting by with natural snow….its a real mixed bag right now in the NEast…this warm up is gonna kill us. Hopefully we have March really come in like a lion, although not looking likely. I am realizing how important to take advantage of these natural snow events when they happen, because they certainly seem to be more scarce these days in New England.

We get snow, rain, sleet, more rain, and warm temps…but we still love skiing! And when its good, its just as good as anywhere! Looking forward to many more pow days here this winter…and soon enough its time to get up to Mount Washington for their late Winter/Spring snowstorms and shred the infamous lines around Tuckerman Ravine.
