Whitefish MT Firefighter Killed in Avalanche in Glacier National Park

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of a Whitefish man who was killed in an avalanche in Glacier National Park while backcountry skiing on Thursday. Ben Parsons, 36, died from trauma sustained after he was caught in the slide, which occurred about 500 feet below the summit of Stanton Mountain. He had been skiing with two companions, who were unharmed.

Parsons was a firefighter and a paramedic with the Whitefish Fire Department. He also was a husband and father, and was a well-known ski mountaineering and mountain bike athlete. Parsons was a 1998 graduate of Flathead High School and played on the golf team.
