According to CAIC, only 1 person was killed by an avalanche in Colorado last season. That makes the 2016/17 winter the least deadly since 1997. Surprisingly, 66 people were caught in slides throughout the season. The low number of avalanche deaths can partially be attributed to backcountry education, which has saved countless lives.
