4 skiers triggered and were caught in an avalnache in the trees near La Tzoumaz, near Verbier and part of the 4 Vallees, Switzerland.  Two of the skiers were killed by the avalanche and two survived.

The avalanche occurred at 2:20pm today.  5 helicopters from Air Glaciers and Air Zermatt, several guides, and some rescue dogs responded to the avalanche and have been searching the zone for more potential victims.

This is a vicious reminder that trees do not protect you from avalnaches.

“If it’s wide enough to ride, it’s wide enough to slide.”

The avalanche warning was 3 out of 5 today in the area where the avalanche occurred.  3 out of 5 or “Considerable” in North America is the avalanche rating that the most people die under.
