With the recent snowfalls in the Australian Alps, Aussie snow enthusiasts have been getting increasingly excited about the upcoming season. To keep the stoke high and get you in the mood for the 2023 Australian season, we are bringing you the 2023 Perisher events, so you can start planning your ski season.

Peak

9-11 June: Peak Festival

After two years of Covid-19 pandemic-related hiatus, the Peak Festival returned to the scene last year and will naturally be on again this season. The lineup is huge, and participating venues include The Man from Snowy River, the Eiger, and Corroborree.

17 and 20 June (and every week after that): Neon Night Skiing & Boarding

Perisher’s Front Valley will have night skiing and boarding from 6 pm every Tuesday and Saturday from Saturday, 17 June until Tuesday, 19 September. Please note that unless you have an Epic Australia Pass, you must purchase a separate night skiing lift ticket online. Smiggin Holes offers skiing & boarding for Kids on Harry’s and Herman’s Carpet every Wednesday night from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm starting Wednesday, 28 June to 20 September, conditions permitting. Please note: Shuttle bus service between Perisher and Smiggins for night skiing on Wednesday nights is unavailable.

25 June: Interschools Come and Try Race

Do you have a kid new to Interschools in Divisions 6 and 5 (aka K-Yr4)? This race is intended as an introduction to Interschools giant slalom racing and is ideal as a practice ahead of the Regional Championships, where they may be competing for the first time. Registration via the Interschools website.

4-7 July: Northern NSW & QLD Interschools Regional Championships

Interschools kick off with Northern NSW & QLD Regionals. For a full event schedule, check out the Interschools website. Expect some disruptions to your ski day if you are in Front Valley or Centre Valley. If you want to avoid getting caught up in the racing mayhem, ski Mt Perisher, Blue Cow, or Smiggins.

9 July: Scots Race

The annual Scots Race is typically held on Front Valley. The Scots Race is open to all school students (non-Scots included) from Kindergarten to Year 12 who can ski or snowboard the respective event race courses safely and in control. Participants can enter either Alpine Giant Slalom (GS) discipline or Snowboard Cross discipline. Registration is open now, and places are limited. Please note competitors cannot enter both disciplines. Entries will close on Sunday, 4 July, or once event numbers are reached.

18-20 July: ACT & Regional NSW Interschools Regional Championships

Skiers and Snowboarders from across the ACT and Southern NSW region will represent their schools in a series of Snowsports competitions where students compete as a part of their school team or as individuals across nine disciplines. Interschool events continue in Perisher with Regional NSW & ACT Regionals. For a full event schedule, check out the Interschools website.

21-22 July: Shred with the Best Demo Days

Come and shred with the best! Perisher is bringing back two of the biggest names in the industry, Atomic and Salomon, in 2023. Swing by Smiggin Holes on a Friday or Saturday between 21 July – 19 August to try the new Salomon QST, Stance, and S/Max ranges or the Atomic Bent, Maverick, and Maven ranges. Demo days bring together the latest and greatest gear, allowing you to try before you buy.

5 August: Blue Cow Cup

The Blue Cow Cup continues to serve as an important platform for all junior skiers to test the waters of racing or show others how it’s done! This event includes a Giant Slalom, a Parallel Night Slalom, and a Ski Cross Race. As the name implies, the event is typically held in Blue Cow but can also be held at Perisher or Guthega, depending on conditions.

5-6 August: NSW Junior Mogul Series

NSW Junior Moguls Competition introduces young athletes to the next level of competition from Interschools. This is an introduction to high-level competition and a similar format to what would be experienced on World Cup and Olympic venue courses. The event is held on Mogul Matt’s in Blue Cow and is fun to watch for spectators! There is typically music and a sausage sizzle, so swing by and watch tomorrow’s mogul ski stars.

11-12 August: Shred with the Best Demo Days

13 August: ACT Schools Cup

The ACT Schools Cup is on Sunday, 13 August, at Perisher. The event is run similar to an Interschools event and is open for school students in the ACT. Students can enter Alpine and Snowboard GS. On the day, a dual course on Front Valley will run Alpine Division 6 to 1, followed by Snowboard GS Division 5 to 1. There will be a medal presentation if conditions allow for individual top 3 medals, team results, and the overall ACT School Cups.

18 August: Amelia McGuiness Memorial Time Trial

The Amelia McGuiness Memorial Time Trials are open to school students K-12, along with an open 19 + age category, and include an Alpine race on Front Valley for the skiers and Snowboard Cross for the snowboarders.

19 August: Snow Australia Futures: Slopestyle

This FUTURES targets all Slopestyle participants at the NSW State Interschools. The development camp will present an extra training opportunity on the Interschools course the day before the Slopestyle Competition. Snow Australia Staff, National Team Coaches, and athletes will be in attendance on course to mentor participants and answer questions.

21-25 August: NSW/ACT/QLD Interschools State Championships

The best ski and snowboarders from across the NSW, ACT, and QLD state regions who qualified from the Regionals held in July will represent themselves and their schools in a series of Snowsports competitions where students compete for a chance to advance to the Australian Interschools Championships. A cross-country event will also be part of the State races.

16 September: Perisher Cup

The Perisher Cup is one of Australia’s oldest and most prestigious ski competitions. First run in 1953, skiers represent their club as a team in discipline events – Giant Slalom, Cross County, and Jump. More details on the 2023 Perisher Cup will follow.

29 September – 1 October: Perisher Slush Cup

The inaugural Perisher Slush Cup will be a three-day spring palooza consisting of a Banked Slalom, Skimo, and Pond Skim. More information to follow!
