The first Red Bull Unrailistic skiing event is scheduled for today and tomorrow (April 26th and 27th) and is being held in the famous ski town of Åre, Sweden. It is two days of events with competitors hitting a slope-style-designed course with some never seen features and ski edits that freeski legend Jesper Tjäder created.

Scoring according to the Red Bull Unrailistic skiing event:

A panel of experts scores the skiers. The male and female skier with the highest combined score from Best Trick and the Main Event wins.
  • Best Trick: The riders perform tricks on a select set of features. Highest score counts. The man and woman with the highest score win the Best Trick competition. All skiers carry over their highest score to the following day as it counts towards the overall result.
  • Main Event: The riders get two runs each down the Unrailistic course, where they must attempt as many features and tricks as possible to score high. The highest scoring run out of the two counts towards the overall. The man and woman with the highest combined score take the win.

This course is special because it was specifically designed by Jesper Tjäder, a freeski star famous for his creative tricks and for doing things no one else does in freeskiing. The Swede became legendary with his ability to ski and think about doing something on skis that no one else would ever dream of doing. He has carried around a notebook of drawings and sketches he would think about since he was younger. Those drawings and sketches would eventually turn into reality, and that is where Tjäder also became known for his incredible ability to create and design ski edits.

The Red Bull Unrailistic skiing event is different from other ski competitions because it features a lot of rails and ski edits that come directly from the mind of Tjäder. The course will have some of Tjäder’s original features from previous competitions and some new ones. It will push competitors to quickly adapt to the tough features and ski edits as they make their way down the slopestyle course.

The women’s competitors also have some big names featuring Jenny-Lee Burmansson, Mathilde Gremaud, and Kirsty Muir.

The event will take place at Nationalarenan in Ã…re and does not require the purchase of a ticket to enter and is open to the public.

  1. How do you even mix up Sweden and Switzerland? Does not sound similar, does not speak the same language, isn’t even very close to each other….
