With just one month to go until season opening in Australia, it’s high time we check out the opening dates.
Most resorts in Australia will be opening for King’s birthday long weekend, June 6-8, 2026, however not all of those resorts may be able to offer skiing and snowboarding from the get-go. Make sure you check the resort’s social media closer to the day to see what will be on offer.
Guaranteed to open for skiing will be Thredbo Resort in New South Wales and Mount Buller in Victoria, thanks to their “ice factories” — snow-making systems that can operate at any temperature.

We keep our fingers crossed for all remaining resorts for some cold days for snow making and early season snowfalls. This week, resorts will see the first significant early-season snowfall with up to 25 cm expected over the next three days. Unless a warm weather spell erodes all of it, this could be the base for more.
