Only in the past few days have three wildfires been reported in the Jackson Hole, Wyoming, area. They include:

  • A currently 64-acre-and-growing fire called the “Sandy Fire” burning in the Big Piney Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, roughly six miles west of Bondurant.
  • A fire in Grand Teton National Park is visible from Highway 191 southwest of Glacier View Turnout which started on Tuesday night from a lightning strike.
  • A 0.1-acre fire also caused by a lightning strike called the Upper Green Fire located in the Pinedale Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest which fire crews responded to on Tuesday.

Fire crews are currently working to contain all three fires and their causes are being investigated. Meanwhile, federal managers have increased the fire danger to moderate for the Bridger-Teton National Forest and National Elk Refuge as well as Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, according to Jackson Hole News and Guide.

When the fire danger is ranked as moderate it means that fires can be started accidentally, like from unattended campfires, especially on windy days in dry areas. With Fourth of July weekend coming up, those recreating in the outdoors will need to be wary of the potential for wildfire right now and take the proper precautions to avoid setting the forest ablaze.

  1. They’re from SanFran, so guess don’t give a shite about other folks homes, though Jackson is like 99% over stoked transplants, what’s the harm?

  2. It’s getting so popular in WY because Snowbrains keeps posting about it. Snowbrains has that clout.
