Mark your calendar—in just 80 days (that’s October 23, 2025), the ski racing world’s most anticipated documentary of the year hits theaters across Europe: “Downhill Skiers–Ain’t No Mountain Steep Enough.” Directed by Gerald Salmina and co-produced with Red Bull Media House, Amazon, ORF, and CH Media, this cinematic road movie offers a rare glimpse behind the scenes of elite downhill racing.

The documentary follows several elite Downhill ski racers, including Marco Odermatt, Sofia Goggia, Cyprien Sarrazin, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, Conny Hütter, Jasmine Flury, and Nina Ortlieb during the 2024-25 FIS season. Starting with the World Cup Downhill in Saalbach, Austria, the movie follows athletes from training to races, showing the ups and downs, the grit, glory, and tears as athletes move through World Cup stops at iconic venues like Kitzbühel, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Wengen, and Bormio, and culminating with the 2025 Alpine World Ski Championships in Saalbach. During the filming, director Salmina became witness to devastating incidents, such as Cyprien Sarrazin’s crash in Bormio.

Downhill ski racing is the most dangerous FIS alpine discipline. With race speeds exceeding 100 km per hour (62 mph) and long race courses, the margin for error becomes infinitesimally small. According to an Austrian study, Downhill skiers face almost twice the risk of severe in-competition injuries as a Giant Slalom racer and three times that of a Slalom skier.

Downhill Skiers is a gripping English-language documentary that delves into what compels elite alpine athletes to push past fear and flirt with danger in pursuit of FIS points, podiums, and personal ambition. The adrenaline-charged trailer offers a chilling glimpse into their world, building anticipation for the film’s theatrical debut in October. A four-part companion series is also set to stream on Amazon Prime in January 2026.
