9,624-foot Sonora Pass in California (first crossed in 1852) has reopened completely. Sonora Pass opened for the first time on April 18th, 2014 before last weeks storms closed it back down. April 18th was the earliest opening on Sonora Pass in over a decade. It just reopened again yesterday and it’s gotta be lookin’ good up there.
The terrain on Sonora Pass is solid with a plethora of easy options right off the pass. The easiest tour is to head south from the pass. Ski the obvious peak and bowl that dump you back to the road a few miles west of the pass. From here, just hitch hike back to the pass and repeat.

The pass should be holding good snow for another few weeks. Things are melting fast, though. Get up there while the getting is good.
