Winterplace Ski Resort, West Virginia, is home to one of the best mountains for families and learning in the Southeast, and it is getting ready to kick off the 2025-26 season with some important upgrades and improvements. The resort announced the completion of a $2 million capital investment, which included upgrading its snowmaking system, lighting, and infrastructure. “During the off-season, our team has been busy making improvements across the mountain and resort to ensure an elevated guest experience,” Josh Faber, General Manager at Winterplace, said in a press release.
Winterplace boosted its snowmaking capabilities by adding more than one mile of new snowmaking pipe, which will support stronger, more consistent snow coverage. The resort also added 20 new energy-efficient snow guns for faster and sustainable snow production. The mountain added 250 new slope lights, including double the lighting in the Terrain Park for extended night operations. The mountain also added a mini excavator, tele-handler, new truck, and snowmobile, which will boost the efficiency and flexibility across the resort. Measures to improve energy efficiency were partially funded by a USDA energy efficiency improvement grant.
For beginners and first-timers, Winterplace made it easier for guests to get on and off the lifts by making the ramps smoother, Â improving accessibility with its new lift ramps. The resort also built a brand-new Ski Patrol Headquarters at the top of the mountain, which will enhance guest safety and shorten response times. Winterplace’s Snow Tubing Park was upgraded to add 50% more tubes, improved lighting, a covered loading area, and enhanced snowmaking.
The mountain invested in enhancing guest services and added new kitchen equipment throughout its dining areas. The new equipment is planned to assist in improving food quality and speed of service. Winterplace also purchased over $100,000 in new rental gear to upgrade its fleet. This includes new skis, snowboards, boots, poles, and helmets. Over the last five seasons, Winterplace has invested almost half a million dollars in rental gear to improve guests’ experiences. New Retail offerings have also expanded, which were selected to give guests the opportunity to grab the latest and stylish apparel to hit the slopes with. Winterplace’s Resort Center, Mickey’s, and Mountain House have all been freshly painted and added a new covered deck seating area at the Resort Center. “Our focus is always about the guest. Every improvement – from new snow guns and brighter lighting to smoother lift ramps and updated facilities – was made to enhance comfort, safety, and maximum enjoyment,” Faber said.
