Smokejumpers can access remote fires quickly and effectively via the sky. This video shows BLM Jump 49’s arrival on the Himes Peak Fire, CO on Wednesday, September 6th. Thankfully, this fire is now 100% contained.

  1. These guys are utilized as a fast reaction to small fires that have just gotten started. Notice that the sun is setting. So if you do the math a smokejumper delivered from the air directly to the fire in daylight was probably much faster direct reaction than a full crew via truck coming from who knows where going down unfamiliar roads (many might be private ranch roads with locked gates, etc) then hiking to the fire in the dark.
