The opening races of the men’s and women’s halfpipe season of the Levi World Cup will take place as planned on 14-16 November 2025, although the exceptionally warm and prolonged autumn has brought challenges for snowmaking and slope maintenance. On Thursday, November 6, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) gave the green light for the race to go ahead in terms of snow sufficiency on the race slope—a process known as ‘snow control.’
The Levi Black slope currently has about 70% of the recycled snow from last winter, and with the weather now freezing, there will be time to make more snow before the race weekend. Three large snow piles with a combined capacity of over 60,000 cubic meters have been stored on the World Cup slope. The prolonged warm summer and autumn have melted an average of about a third of the snow in storage. According to the Finnish Meteorological Institute, November in Lapland has so far been up to 3-4°C above normal on average.
“This autumn has been a real challenge. Temperatures have been record high, but we have managed to maintain a race-ready slope with the help of recycled snow and a preservation system. Now the frost comes at just the right time, and we get extra snow where it is still needed.”
— Petri Tuomikoski, Levi World Cup Race Director

According to Tuomikoski, Levi is ready for the race weekend. “Although the conditions have been challenging, the race course is of guaranteed Levi quality. The snowmakers and track staff are working around the clock and the FIS requirements are being met,” he says.
The sustainability of the Levi World Cup is underpinned by long-term environmental work. Preserved snow and an energy-efficient snowmaking system are part of Levi’s responsible event production, which enables competitions to take place even in the warm early winter months.
