As winter quickly approaches, so do the unforgettable days spent enjoying the outdoors and doing what we all love so dearly: skiing and snowboarding. Whether you’re a fan of sunny, blue-bird days or white-out blizzard days, protecting your skin—and especially your face—from the elements is more important than most people care to realize. Bundling up and wearing a balaclava or face covering helps, but this winter I’ll be taking it one step further by using Aloe Up sunscreen and a daily moisturizer. In the meantime, I’ve had the chance to try out a couple of products this fall around Lake Tahoe.

Aloe Up has spent the last 35 years crafting and perfecting luxury sun and skin care products. Its products begin with organically grown aloe plants, processed in the USA. What differentiates Aloe Up from the competition is simple, yet effective: a minimum of 35% and up to 96.9% pure aloe vera in every product. In comparison, other brands on the market are typically mineral oil- or water-based, with very little aloe. Therefore, the therapeutic benefits provided by aloe, such as naturally regenerating skin cells, reducing swelling, and stopping itching, are not as plentiful in other brands’ products as in Aloe Up.

Sport Collection
Fall in Lake Tahoe is perfect hiking and golfing weather, and proved to be a great time to try out the ‘Sport Collection’. Although the temperatures are cooler and the days are shorter, at about 6,200 ft in elevation, the sun’s rays are powerful, and sunscreen is still necessary.

There are three sunscreen SPFs—15, 30, and 50—within the Aloe Up Sport Collection, available as either a lotion or a continuous spray. Upon trying both the 30 and 50 SPF sunscreen lotions, my initial observation was how well they absorbed into my skin, and the lack of a “greasy feel” that so many sunscreens leave behind. Also, as someone who dislikes perfumes and the general smell of sunscreen, I appreciate the fact that the entire sport collection is fragrance-free.
The spray sunscreen also impressed me with how evenly it applied and, once again, a very noticeable non-greasy feel. It essentially absorbed completely, without having to rub it in at all. During my round of golf, I effortlessly reapplied sunscreen on the back nine without getting my hands greasy or sticky.

Daily Moisturizer
The ‘For the Face Daily Moisturizer with SPF 25’ was designed to be an essential step in anyone’s daily skin-care routine. Even though I currently don’t have much of a “skin-care routine” as a 30-year-old man, I’ve incorporated this lotion into my daily routine over the last couple of weeks, curious to see if I would notice any differences. Also, I let my girlfriend try it out to see what she thought.

It is always dry here in Tahoe, and when the fall-to-winter transition begins, my nose and face get very dry and chapped. After just a few days of applying post-shower, I noticed my skin felt much more moisturized and less “leathery” than before. She agreed and also noted how “light” and non-greasy it felt, introducing a brand-new lotion into her skin-care routine.
Since this product contains hydrating ingredients such as coconut oil, almond oil, and grapefruit seed extract, it’s no wonder my skin felt great. As the snow begins to fall, I’m looking forward to using this daily moisturizer to protect my face on the slopes all winter. That is, of course, if she doesn’t use it all before then!

If you’re looking for a thoughtfully crafted, yet still affordable, sunscreen or face lotion, Aloe Up might suit your needs well. There are several different-sized options, too. If you want to try a product, 1-oz bottles are available both online and in specialty retail outlets and sports stores. If you love the product as much as I do, larger refill quantities are available on the Aloe Up website.
In addition to the Sport Collection line and Daily Moisturizer, Aloe Up offers a wide range of products, including mineral sunscreen, sunburn relief, lip balm, and tanning oil. All of its products are reef-friendly, paraben-free, alcohol-free, cruelty-free, and biodegradable. Whether I’m enjoying the hot summer sun golfing, hiking, or paddle-boarding, or out on the mountain skiing in a harsh blizzard in the winter, I’ll be bringing Aloe Up along to help protect my skin from the elements.
