I’ve skied better snow at Alta Ski Area, UT, but Tuesday was one of the most beautiful in three decades of skiing there—a welcoming bluebird day with fantastic high clouds all day and blowing snow on the mountain peaks.

With Ballroom, Cecret, and Devil’s Castle closed and untracked since the weekend storm and the high traverse runs losing features from insane snow accumulation, the mountains were ethereal.

The blue runs were firm but expert areas skied nicely until mid-afternoon when some areas became a bit sticky. Lift lines were nonexistent and Catherine’s Area was practically deserted.

If you have a few dreams just outside your comfort zone, get out and do them. This is the year.

Alta has received 799″ of fresh snow this season and has a 223″ base.
