Pulling up to Alta in the AM
Sun poking out as we pulled up to Alta

The Tahoe exodus continued today with a stop at Alta. We were giddy with excitement when we pulled up, as they got a fresh 5″ overnight. The sun poked through a few times during the day, which made for some great visibility in between some light snow flurries. Our best runs of the morning were from short hikes up to the top of East Greely. A bit of sidestepping earned us some nice, dry powder turns up top, before dropping into some fun chop below. We also had a lot of fun runs skiing down through the trees under Collins chair, which turned into chalky powdery bumps in the afternoon.

In the afternoon, we skied around under Wildcat chair, where we saw a few nice natural and mad-made kickers. We finished off the day skiing soft bumps under Supreme chair, which in the morning was blower pow on top of hidden icy bumps. Overall, it was a super fun day that actually felt like a winter; something that’s been sadly missing in Tahoe this season. Next stop… Jackson Hole!

  1. That’s Sugarloaf in the center of your photo – Devil’s Castle is far left.

  2. Snow was good, certainly not cold smoke though. Just making sure we don’t water it down when we really do get some cold smoke.

    1. Sorry amigo, not trying to mislead anyone here. Compared to the super duper thick, wet snow that we’ve had in Tahoe, this totally felt like cold smoke to me.

Got an opinion? Let us know...
