Alyeska ski resort in Girdwood, Alaska got hot, slushy, and fun today. Everything was skiable and speed was your friend. We alternated hitting the North Face (which got softer and more fun as the day went on) and goofing off in the Upper and Lower Bowls. You can find about 15 jumps from top to bottom in the bowls and it’s a riot.
The North Face got pretty soft and carvable by the afternoon and kept getting softer right until 5:30pm when they closed (Alyeska is open from 11am – 6pm right now). The Upper and Lower Bowls were slushy and fun all day.
The weather gave us in and out sun and even a few snow flurries in the afternoon. Overall, it was just very pleasant out with no wind at all.
Alyeska has gotten 445″ of snow this season, they got 1″ last night, they have a 7″ base at the bottom and a 96″ base at the top. Spring skiing is in full effect.
The current forecast is for another inch or two through Wednesday then sun starting Thursday. It looks like spring skiing will continue at Alyeska, which if you ask us, is a great thing.
