Report from August 22, 2025
Last Friday, we were ready for a bigger peak again.
7,162′ Cerro Electrico.
Ty and Virginia came with us and showed us the way.
We left the house at 5 a.m. and were hiking by 5:42 a.m.
Sunrise isn’t until 8:43 a.m.
2 miles of flat brought us to the base of the mountain.

A reasonable then precipitous climb put us into some critical terrain.
This terrain featured cliffs, canyons, and no fall zones.
It was increasingly covered in thin, glazed ice as we ascended.

We sketchily made it where we’d need to transition to boots, but there was no safe place to do so.
We’d have fallen into the abyss trying to put our boots on.
Greggy and I already had bad feelings about the setup up and it was easy to turn around.

We’d done all of the hard part and none of the fun part.
We never even put our boots on.
Ty and Virginia turned around a bit higher than us due to biting cold feet and wind.

It just wasn’t the right day.
The hike down was no easier than the way up.
Grabby bushes, steep downclimbs, and slick mud marked the way home.

6 hours and 30 minutes after leaving the car, we were back at Malvadisco (car’s name), having never even put our ski boots on.
Honestly, we were stoked.
We’d gathered beta, had a plan for next time, and I think we found the Final Boss of this trip.
Cerro Electrico.
¡Gracias, Patagonia!
