Arapahoe Basin Ski Area is adding a new member to its avalanche safety team this winter: a 4‑month‑old Labrador retriever named Walker—and ain’t he adorable?

Walker, adopted in May by fifth-year ski patroller Darcy Forsythe, will train alongside four other avalanche dogs at the resort, two of which are already certified, Post Independent reports. Forsythe said she was inspired to get her own avalanche dog after working closely with the patrol’s canine unit and seeing the critical role and morale boost the dogs bring to the job.

Walker came from Bear Creek Labradors near Craig, Colorado, after Forsythe used the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test to assess the litter. She told the Post Independent that Walker’s drive to work, attentiveness, and enthusiasm stood out.

Since joining Forsythe, Walker has been exploring the mountain and starting basic avalanche dog training. Forsythe plans to take the certification process slowly, aiming for completion by the time Walker turns three. She’ll lean on experienced handlers and the Summit County Search and Rescue Group for guidance.

Walker is expected to get his first real taste of working on snow when A-Basin opens for the 2025‑26 ski season later this fall.
