Aspen Skiing Co. announced Monday the mountain would again reopen 130 acres of terrain on a 58-inch base for weekend skiing and snowboarding on Saturday and Sunday. The Silver Queen Gondola and the Ajax Express chairlift will both be open June 8-9, according to the press release sent out by Aspen Skiing Co. Monday. All skiers and snowboarders will be required to download on the gondola.

“It’s certainly been an epic year with the amount of snow, so to be able to have that much on top of Aspen Mountain is just incredible,” a resort spokesman said. “The gondola is open on the weekend as it is. Since the summer activities are not available, it’s an honor to be able to open the mountain for skiing.”

The gondola will operate this weekend from 9 am to 4 pm and Ajax Express, also known as Chair 3, will run from 9 am to 1 pm, as long as conditions allow for laps on the upper blue and black runs. The gondola will also be open to foot traffic for sightseeing and there will be food and beverage options as well as a DJ on Saturday.

This will be the third weekend in a row the mountain, which closed for the season April 21, will be open for bonus days. The mountain was open for three days over Memorial Day Weekend and again this past weekend.

According to the release, Four Mountain Sports in Aspen will be open for rental and retail. All ski and snowboard rentals are half-price and ski and bike packages are available at a discounted rate. Ski and snowboard equipment can be picked up after 2 pm on Friday for weekend rentals.
