After more than a decade of planning and anticipation, the Mt. Perisher 6 Chairlift will open to the public on Friday, June 27, ushering in a new chapter for Australia’s largest ski resort. The $26 million (AUD) project, developed in partnership with renowned lift manufacturer Doppelmayr, promises to transform the guest experience on Mt Perisher with faster, smoother, and more comfortable access to the summit.

The launch event is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday and invites skiers and snowboarders to be among the first to ride the six-seater lift. The celebration will feature live music and surprise giveaways, including limited-edition merchandise, creating a festive atmosphere at the base of Mt Perisher.
The Mt. Perisher 6 Chairlift stands as Australia’s highest lifted point at 2,042 meters (6,699 feet). It is designed to reach the summit in approximately 5.5 minutes—44% faster than the previous double and triple chairs it replaces. The new lift’s high-speed, six-person carriers are engineered for both comfort and efficiency, significantly reducing congestion and improving guest circulation across the resort.
Construction began in late 2023 and concluded on schedule, thanks to favorable weather and the combined efforts of Perisher’s construction crew and Doppelmayr engineers. The chairlift’s advanced wind performance technology, including a wider rope gauge, is expected to enhance reliability during challenging weather, a frequent concern on Mt Perisher.
To mark the occasion, Perisher is offering 20% off five-day stays at The Station Resort in Jindabyne and up to 35% off lift tickets when booked early online, encouraging visitors to take advantage of the new lift and the enhanced winter offerings.
Perisher, located in the heart of New South Wales’ Snowy Mountains, is the largest ski resort in Australia, spanning over 3,000 acres of skiable terrain. The resort features 47 lifts and more than 100 marked runs, catering to all ability levels across its four interconnected resort areas: Perisher Valley, Blue Cow, Smiggin Holes, and Guthega. Renowned for its expansive alpine landscapes and modern facilities, Perisher remains a premier destination for skiers and snowboarders seeking both variety and adventure in Australia’s high country.
