Avalanche Claims The Life Of A Backcountry Skier In Washington | The 18th Avalanche Death In The US This Season

According to KEPR, a backcountry skier was killed in an avalanche in the Methow Valley in Washington on Sunday. That afternoon, 4 backcountry skiers were caught in the avalanche. Three of them were able to free themselves and locate the fourth victim using an avalanche beacon.

Sadly, they were unable to recover the body. Search and rescue crews attempted to recover the body, but they were unable to due to extreme avalanche danger. After time passed, they were able to extract the victims body with a helicopter. This incident marks the the 18th avalanche death in the United States this winter.
