Friends of CAIC this morning issued an avalanche watch for various areas of Colorado. If you’re going out the next day or two, be careful out there.

An Avalanche Watch is in effect for the following zones:

-Steamboat & Flat Tops
-Front Range
-Vail & Summit County
-Aspen
-Gunnison

Issued: 02/14/2018 6:00 AM
Expires: 02/16/2018 6:00 AM

An energetic storm is bearing down on the Northern and Central Mountains of Colorado. An Avalanche Watch is in effect for very dangerous avalanche conditions beginning Thursday morning. Storm snow and substantial amounts of wind-drifted snow will rapidly overload a weak snowpack. If snowfall forecasts verify, large avalanches will be likely. Be alert for rapidly changing conditions and rising avalanche danger. Backcountry country travel is not recommended Thursday.
