**The road has since been reopened for skiing today at Mt. Rose.

The Nevada Department of Transportation had to close Route 878 due to white-out conditions and severe avalanche danger. These conditions are a threat to the public’s safety, so the road had to be closed. Two avalanches were reported in the area today, with one of them running out into the road.

“Over 3 feet of fresh snow so far has Mt. Rose closed for the day due to highway closures. Get your powder skis and boards ready for tomorrow,” stated Mt. Rose Ski Resort.

The road is expected to remain closed until the severe weather leaves the area and plows and avalanche mitigation techniques can clear the road for safe travel. Mt. Rose was unable to open today due to this road closure, but they are planning on opening on Thursday, January 5th, 2017. Just think of all that untouched powder that will be there. On your way, just make sure to drive safely and check road conditions before leaving.
