As part of its 25th anniversary season, Backcountry Magazine is excited to launch the Backcountry Magazine Podcast.ย Recorded largely from host and former Backcountry editor in chief Adam Howardโ€™s 1971 VW Westfalia, the Backcountry Podcast is both grassroots and thoughtfully produced, featuring music from Tellurideโ€™s Alex Paul and environmental sounds from each guestโ€™s mountain experience.

โ€œBringing ambient sounds from, say, one of Cody Townsendโ€™s flicks into audio is wilder than I expected,โ€ Howard says. โ€œAnd seeing Caroline Gleich ski is one thing. Hearing her as she falls and blows out her knee, entirely another. And then we get to talk it out.โ€

In season one of the Backcountry Podcast, Howard speaks with athlete, influencer and activist Gleich about everything from wedding-day stress to summiting Everest; freeskier and film star Townsend talks about his mission to ski all the lines in the classic coffee-table book 50 Classic Ski Descents of North America; and Olympic downhiller Wiley Maple shares how he balances racing at 90 MPH with backcountry skiing at 50ยฐ and how heโ€™s dealt with the death of his best friend last spring.

All three episodes of season one of the Backcountry Magazine Podcast are available now. Listen at backcountrymagazine.com/podcast or find these episodes on Google Play, Stitcher or iTunes.
