Bariloche, Argentina Backcountry Report: Spine Skiing!

I went for a walk in the backcountry near Cerro Catedral in Bariloche, Argentina today.

My plan was to find big open northern faces with lots of sun for some sun cooked slarvy turns.

Instead I accidentally ended up on powdery spines.

My route to a big open northern face with through the spine zone and I assumed they’d have already been cooked.

They weren’t.

They were damn good for how long it’s been since the last significant snowfall.

I skied the mellower spine and it was excellent.

I skinned up and skied the more challenging spine and had an absolute blast on it.

Today was a great day.

Today was the warmest day that I’ve we’ve had in August thus far and a bit windy.

High clouds rolled in, but then rolled out.

A small storm is forecast to impact our region ending our 3 days in a row of glorious sunshine.
