Bear Valley Mountain Resort, California, hosts the 10th Annual Nickolay Dodov Slopestyle and Fundraiser this Saturday, March 21, as the resort works to raise $10,000 for a foundation dedicated to free avalanche education across the state.
The milestone event supports the Nickolay Dodov Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in memory of Nickolay Dodov, who lost his life in an avalanche in Haines, Alaska, in 2012. The foundation is led by his parents, Alex and Natalia Dodov, both longtime members of the Bear Valley community.
The foundation has reached more than 30,000 skiers, snowboarders, students, coaches, and parents over the past 12 years through its “Know Before You Go” avalanche awareness program and interactive youth safety workshops. All education is provided free of charge.
100% of the proceeds from Saturday’s event go directly to the foundation. Bear Valley will also host a raffle featuring prizes donated by local and regional sponsors. The competition at Kodiak Park is open to skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels, with a $20 entry fee.
Looking further down the calendar, Bear Valley has moved its annual Pond Skim and Brewfest to April 4, though the resort notes that date remains subject to change depending on weather and snow conditions. The event is one of the resort’s most popular spring traditions, drawing competitors who attempt to glide across a man-made pond without tumbling.
Skiers and riders looking ahead to next season can also take advantage of Bear Valley’s spring pass sale. The resort is offering its lowest prices of the year on 2026-27 season passes through April 30, with the ability to ski or ride the remainder of the current season for free.
Bear Valley will close Monday, March 23, through Wednesday, March 25, to preserve snow during a stretch of warm weather, before reopening Thursday, March 26. The resort has seen 227″ of snow this season, and, according to OpenSnow, currently has a 104″ base.
