Due to snow levels below the threshold for safe operations, Big White Ski Resort delays opening on its scheduled start date. The resort announced that, as of now, it will not open on Thursday, November 27, and will instead wait until conditions improve. Big White is actively monitoring snowfall and terrain conditions and will open as soon as the snowpack is sufficient, typically around 50 centimeters.
The teams at Big White in British Columbia have been working hard to prepare everything and share excitement for the upcoming winter season. Although Mother Nature has not yet delivered sufficient snow, optimism remains high. At present, Big White requires approximately 20 inches (50 centimeters) of additional snow to open runs and begin lift operations safely. Once that amount of snow is received, all available resources will be deployed on the mountain to capture, groom, and pack new snow as conditions allow. Until then, the official opening date remains on hold.
Weather patterns are being monitored closely by Big White staff. Based on the current forecast, the next significant assessment is expected on Monday, December 1 at the earliest, unless conditions improve sooner.

Many visitors have been eagerly awaiting the season’s start, and Big White’s crews are fully prepared to mobilize once the snow arrives. Once there is enough snow, work will proceed at full speed to open the mountain, with an effort to provide 48 hours’ notice before opening.
Although Big White’s mountain terrain remains closed, the village continues to be active. The Welcome to Winter Christmas Light Up event will go ahead as planned on Saturday, November 29, providing a festive atmosphere and an opportunity to purchase season passes before the busy period begins. Retail shops and restaurants will be open, and updated dining hours can be found in the food and dining section of Big White’s website. All opening day updates will be posted here.
For safety reasons, visitors are advised to stay off the mountain until Big White officially opens, as equipment is in use and conditions are not yet safe for public access. The off-season resort access map is available on the website.
