Black Mountain, New Hampshireโ€™s oldest continuously operating ski area, will close out its 90th season on Saturday, May 3, its latest closing day, the resort confirmed on social media yesterday.

Black Mountain remains the last ski area in New Hampshire still spinning lifts and one of the final holdouts on the East Coast. The mountain, which first opened in 1935, credits its extended season to significant upgrades in snowmaking technology, a dedicated staff, and a commitment to independent, family-friendly skiing.

Saturdayโ€™s event will feature $9 lift tickets for all ages, a nod to the mountainโ€™s 90th birthday and its tradition of accessibility. The summit double chair will run for skiers from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; foot traffic can also access the mid-mountain aprรจs scene and final DJ party at the Alpine Cabin via the triple chair.

The celebration will include live music throughout the day, including performances by Candie Tremblay, Jonathan Sarty, and Finn Van Rossum, and a headline show by the seven-piece Better Angels Band. Festivities also include a breakfast buffet, fondue and champagne at the Alpine Cabin, food and drink specials, and a high-energy jump jam with prizes for standout style. The first 1,000 guests at the Alpine Cabin will receive complimentary 90th birthday merchandise. The day will conclude with a fireworks display.

Skiers celebrate the season’s final weekend at Black Mountain, marking 90 years of operation with $9 lift tickets, live music, and fireworks.

General Manager Erik Mogensen, who took over last fall after Black Mountain faced the risk of closure, led a turnaround by restoring summit access, digitizing operations, and improving snowmaking. โ€œWeโ€™ve been laying the groundwork for our longest season since day one,โ€ Mogensen said, noting the challenge of keeping a southern-facing, low-elevation mountain open so late. Last year, Black Mountain closed in mid-March. This yearโ€™s record-setting run is a testament to the mountainโ€™s renewed vision and the communityโ€™s support. Mogensen is also Managing Director of the Indy Pass.

Looking ahead, Black Mountain is preparing to transition to a community-owned cooperative for the 2025-26 season, ensuring local stewardship and long-term sustainability. Season passes for next year are already on sale, with payment plans and special offers for families and children.
