Bluebird Backcountry, located in Kremmling, CO announced today that it will open for its second full season on Thursday, December 30th.

“The mountain is ready, and our team is ready. Fingers crossed — this next storm cycle should deliver what we need to get open. Let it snow!

– Co-founder Jeff Woodward

Bluebird Backcountry is a backcountry ski area where guests enjoy skinning up the mountain rather than riding chairlifts. The main attraction is 1,200+ acres of skiing designed for backcountry learning and managed by a professional ski patrol. Bluebird is the only resort of its kind and opened for its first full season for the 2020-21 season on Bear Mountain, located between Kremmling and Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Bluebird will return to a much-improved Bear Mountain this winter. Twelve new runs, ranging from green to extreme, and four new skin tracks have been added to the mountain, effectively doubling the skiable acreage. Also new this year: camping on-site in the Bear Mountain parking lot, two free days at Arapahoe Basin for season pass holders, and ski-with-your-dog weekdays.

Opening day will begin a week behind schedule due to unusually dry conditions across much of the state. Bluebird expects to open West Bowl and the surrounding area for opening day.

Bluebird Backcountry is open Thursdays through Mondays throughout the winter. The season runs for about three months, with closing day anticipated for March 27, 2022.
