Bluebird Pow! Squaw Conditions Report – 3/30

Hands down, it was the best day of the season at Squaw/Alpine (so far). We were greeted with a beautiful bluebird pow day and some pretty massive lines on KT and the Funi. With all of the meaningful upper mountain terrain closed the day before, there was a good 2 feet of fresh waiting for us above 8,000 feet. After some fresh turns on West Face and the Alternates, we pushed for higher ground on Headwall and Granite Chief.

Headwall was holding some nice, wintery snow on all sides, with my personal favorite being Hogsback. Granite was scheduled for an 11am opening, and we had a great run in the less sun exposed terrain skiers right of the chair. The sun exposed terrain in the Granite Glades was too sticky icky by the time we skied it just before noon.

After a full day of sun and pow, the clouds started rolling in again towards the end of the day and sprinkled some light refills on us. Monday should be a nice break before another pow day on Tuesday and more to come all week!

  1. No excuse not to run Oly lady, red dog, squaw creek, squaw one. KSL needs to sell squaw ASAP. This place is run by a bunch of ass clowns. KSL sold its soul.

  2. Funi line? Squaw 1 broke again?
KT line? Did they take the chars of Oly Lady yet?
GC line? What happened to the 50 mil and the new lift?
Red Dog broke or just spring saving days?
Thought I get access to the pool in spring? What they can’t afford to heat it?
    No “soul”?

    1. KT line is a joke, instead of running lifts at 100% capacity we get 78% now, 2% less than the standard 80% and the once superfast 88% of past. What ever happened to giving 100% effort and performance all the time. Guess if you operate at only 78% your target is much easier to achieve.

Yep, go to any other resort that has detachable high speed lifts and that what they are, HIGH SPEED!

Soul of Skiing, sure, esp when our beloved Mtn Mgr King-al-ing doesn’t even freakin ski. And when are they going to figure out you can’t run squaw 1 and KT without causing huge congestion at the bottom.
Michael Gross the liability mgr should have responsibility here for creating a safer environment for families at this juncture. Cross traffic signs do not work, they need to create lanes using nylon fencing and have signs up for both directions warning of oncoming traffic. It’s not rocket science people.

      1. Soul Hold, really?
You vote for more signs and more fencing?
        Really?
Running Squaw 1 in the realm you suggest would actually create more congestion and hazard. You’d have people traversing “up Hill” at the bottom of Mtn Run to get to Squaw One, with people ripping down Mtn Run to get back on KT. Oh Wait… more signs with fencing will fix that. Thats right!

    2. Seriously stop bitching and go somewhere else you kook. You have the most negative and bitching opinion about everything on/at Squaw. Get a life or go ski somewhere else.

      1. Dear Poser, I’d really like you to be my customer. I could serve you crap all day and you wouldn’t complain. You’re the best! Now go back to you alternate reality in your HQ office in CO and stay out of Tahoe.

  3. An instructor couldn’t keep up with me. I am the best skier on the mountain. Maybe he can keep up with you on the groomers.

    1. Maybe you should try turning a bit. You could mount a toilet to a pair of skis and it will straight line. I probably couldn’t keep up with it. I’m the best skier on the mountain behind the toilet and Eric “30ft is my lower limit” Bryant.

  4. Can’t wait for the Chim-chim-chim-chimney this week.
97th day of the season, ur way radder than me, you counting all the gold coast and RD groomer days too, right?

  5. Best day of the season? I think you missed out on a few. That is unless you consider standing in line the best. Keep Standing in Line.

    1. It was my 97th day this season at Squaw/Alpine; I don’t think I missed anything. I agree that standing in line sucks. Might be worth it for you to get some buddies together and hire a private instructor for the morning next time.

Got an opinion? Let us know...
