Today, Brian Head Resort, Utah, announced it has moved its 2025–26 winter opening date to Friday, November 21, weather permitting. The resort was originally scheduled to open on November 7 and subsequently moved it to November 15. The recent  unseasonable warmth has now pushed the opening by another week to next week Friday at 10:00 a.m.

To keep the excitement high, the resort will host a free rail competition on Saturday, November 15, before operations officially begin.

“We’re excited to get the lifts turning and are ready for another great season,” said Amber Palmer, marketing manager at Brian Head Resort. “We’ll have to wait a few days to open, but the fun starts this weekend.”

The pre-season excitement begins with a free hike-to rail jam on Saturday, November 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the base of Navajo Mountain. The event will be hosted by pro snowboarders Pat and Joey Fava, who grew up riding Brian Head Resort and have since gained international recognition. Skiers and snowboarders can join the brothers on the rails at 11 a.m., followed by a competition from 1 to 3 p.m.

The event is open to all ages, free to enter, and does not require a lift ticket, as lifts will not be running during the event.

“Pat and Joey Fava have deep roots here,” said Josh Reid, marketing director at Brian Head Resort. “We’re thrilled to have them back to kick off the park season with the local community before the lifts even start spinning.”

At 9,600 feet above sea level, Brian Head is typically one of the first ski areas to open in Utah and the greater Southwest Region, spanning across Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico. But recent temperature swings have challenged early-season snowmaking across much of the Intermountain West, as resorts balance optimism with patience heading into winter, while resorts at the East Coast have had a great start to the season, with North Carolina opening two resorts this week.
