In a scene straight out of a TV crime show, two burglars’ attempted ski-slope getaway in the Austrian ski resort Ischgl came to an abrupt end thanks to quick-thinking police and a fleet of snow groomers.
Just after 2:00 a.m. on March 30, 2026, two men broke into an office inside a local restaurant in the resort, stealing cash before strapping on skis and fleeing across the freshly groomed slopes toward the valley. Their escape, however, did not go unnoticed. An employee living on the property noticed the break-in and immediately alerted authorities.

Because of the remote alpine location, police from PI-Ischgl had to be transported up the slope by snow groomers in pursuit of the suspects. Meanwhile, another attentive snow groomer noticed the pair of burglars trying to hide in a small forested area near the slope, and alerted the team ferrying the police men. Thanks to the coordinated effort, the two men — 19 and 31-year-old Kosovars — were apprehended, and the stolen cash was recovered.

Both suspects were subsequently admitted to the Innsbruck prison, and a complaint has been filed with the Innsbruck Public Prosecutor’s Office.
While this sounds more like something out of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, it was a real-life success story of Austrian police and Ischgl snow groomers working together. We’re always grateful for the late-night efforts of snow groomers — and now there’s even more reason to appreciate them.
