Snow water equivalent in the Sierra Nevada right now.

The Sierra Nevada water content is offcially at 6% of average right now according to the California Department of Water Resources.  That’s 1/3 of the lowest ever recorded for today’s date.

The California snow pack is currently only 6% of the average amount for this date. With only 2 days left and little prospect of significant additional snowfall, an April 1st record for the lowest snow pack appears inevitable (since 1950, when regular measurements were started). This is much lower than the previous record, set in 1976-77 and again in 2013-14. – NOAA Sacramento

California is experiencing its 4th year of drought across the state.  This 4th year is the worst yet.

At least 15 ski resorts are closed in California right now due to a lack of snow.  It’s still March…  Alpine Meadows closes this Sunday.  Squaw Closes on April 12th.  Nearly all ski resorts in California will be closed as of April 12th.
